GGGI Pacific and AIS Forum Partner held  knowledge-sharing event to catalyse support for Pacific blue economy entrepreneurs

GGGI Pacific, Conservation International and AIS Forum organised the Blue Innovation Solutions: Catalysing Pacific Bluepreneurs panel discussion and workshop on 3 May 3 at the Holiday Inn Suva in Fiji. The event was part of the Blue Economy ClimAccelerator in the Pacific Islands Programme, supported by EIT Climate-KIC Europe’s leading climate innovation initiative, and funded by Irish Aid.

The panel discussion focused on the challenges and opportunities facing blue and green entrepreneurs in the Pacific Islands and the role of innovation in addressing these challenges. The panellists included:

●        Lagi Fisher, National Coordinator - Financial Management Counsellors Association of Fiji

●        Eseta Nadakuitavuki, Chairwoman – Women Entrepreneurs Business Council

●        Arpana Pratap, Director - Blue Economy, Pacific Islands Development Forum

●        Kenneth Katafono, Founder - TraSeable Solutions

The entrepreneurs, investors and industry experts shared their insights and experiences on developing and scaling sustainable solutions for the blue economy.

A workshop co-hosted by Conservation International & Haya Development followed a discussion panel on how entrepreneurs can look after our oceans. This facilitated, interactive workshop explored balancing ocean conservation and livelihoods and understanding the business impacts on ocean conservation.

"The Blue Economy ClimAccelerator is focused on supporting the development of sustainable solutions for the blue economy in the Pacific Islands, and this panel discussion is an important part of that effort," said Katerina Syngellakis, Regional Director of GGGI Pacific. "We are excited to bring together entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts to share their insights and experiences on catalysing innovation in the blue economy."

The Blue Economy ClimAccelerator in the Pacific Islands is part of the entrepreneurship offerings by EIT Climate-KIC to support adaptation and resilience solutions addressing the climate crisis.

Blueprenuers were also allowed to visit Matanivusi Eco Resort to learn how the resort has been developed regarding social and economic impact management, contribution and integration into local culture and communities and the future of the surrounding area to make the community more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
