The Inaugural Pacific Greenpreneurs Accelerator Program Launches to Support Sustainable Business Innovators in six Pacific Islands

22 March 2023 - Suva, Fiji – Global Green Growth Institute’s inaugural Pacific Greenpreneurs Accelerator program kicked off with an orientation session on 14th March 2023, attended virtually by 23 growth-stage green entrepreneurs from the Pacific region.

The Pacific Greenpreneurs Accelerator Program is a regional initiative of the Global Green Growth Institute, with funding support from the Qatar Fund For Development aimed at promoting sustainable entrepreneurship in the Pacific region. 25 businesses from across Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu are part of this program ranging from various sectors such as agriculture, circular economy, clean energy, fashion, food, handicrafts, information technology and sustainable tourism. The program is designed to provide support to high-potential green entrepreneurs who are working on solutions that address environmental and social challenges in the region.

During the orientation, participants were given the opportunity to introduce their green businesses, share what green entrepreneurship means to them, and meet with the program coordinators and other greenpreneurs from across the Pacific. They were also introduced to the various aspects of the program, such as entrepreneurship training, mentorship, networking and market/investor linkage opportunities and interest-free repayable grants of between USD $10,000 - $50,000.

GGGI was pleased with the turnout and the level of enthusiasm displayed by the participants. "We are thrilled to see so many passionate and committed green entrepreneurs from the Pacific region," said Ms Esther Bates - Program Manager of Pacific Green Entrepreneurs Network "We are confident that this program will provide them with the support and resources they need to turn their ideas into successful businesses."

The program is planned to run from March through September 2023 with the local and regional investor pitch events scheduled in July and August respectively.
